Overview
Scam emails will often claim that Square Trade or
a
similar company will hold the payment on your behalf until you have
received your item. We are not an escrow company and will never hold
payment for any reason for any seller. If a seller is claiming that we
will hold the money, it is a scam!
Fake Websites:
Scam artists attempting to use the name of
Square Trade and other companies will often create identical sites to
mimic those of trusted companies. When verifying information always
ensure that you type the address directly into your browser.
Large Insurance Backing:
Scammers will often claim that you are protected
by a “protection account” or insurance company to
make you feel safe. Always verify these types of claims as they usually
indicate a scam.
Secure Payment Methods:
Do
not pay via wire or money transfer,
personal checks, or money orders as there is very little
recourse if
the transaction is fraudulent. We suggest using a credit card as they
often offer fraud protection.
Always verify before you pay:
If you have received one of these emails or are
concerned about a seller, DO NOT pay until you have verified a seller's
claims.
- If claims relate to Square Trade, forward the
email and questions to spoof@squaretrade.com, and wait until a
Square Trade representative contacts you.
- If the claims relate to a specific ecommerce
website purchase, such as eBay, Amazon.com, Yahoo or craigslist.org,
visit their website for further information and send suspicious emails
or questions to their respective support teams (e.g., spoof@ebay.com,
stop-spoofing@amazon.com,
auctions-abuse@cc.yahoo-inc.com,abuse@craigslist.org). These companies
might also have added buyer protection to cover some of your losses.
